trying to make a complete living dex and getting exp from catching shit probably didn't help, but that's another thing that could have a toggle to turn off.Basically, stop designing systems that make the game easier without allowing me to turn it the fuck off. I'm totally cool with them having options to turn off team EXP all that you never get told you can turn off, same with catching EXP. Just put an on/off switch in the options for "extra EXP" and turning it off puts the game handing out EXP like it's Gen V, except you don't get the equipable exp share.
