B. Some misguided impression that Pokemon are animals rather than... monsters. Take a look at any old D&D Monster Manual or even stuff like Greek mythology, there's lots of animate objects or automatons which are monsters.

Personally I can’t stand any of them except aegislash (which has a good reason to be an object mon, there have been legends of cursed/possessed weapons for forever.) But other than that one example, pokemon are pocket. monsters. An ice cream cone or magnets stuck together are not monsters. They’re just lazy dex fillers. Imo pokemon should be flesh and blood, plants, or spectral creatures. Leave objects to digimon.

I mean even the objects get sexualized ocassionally, nothing is ever truly safe, but youre spot on about that misguided assumption about Pokemon being a zoo sim and not a D&D sim

I don't know about your weird definition of monster, but Pokemon are yokai which include objects.

I'm more upset when they're *Just* objects. Instead of being some kind of creature or monster that could be mistaken for one. When the designers don't put in the effort to actually make them visually interesting is when I have a problem with it.

A good chunk of 'Mons in the OP pic are actually fine by me, except for maybe Voltorb or Vanillice. Those two are just boring.

Metagross, Cofagrigus, Chandelure, and Golurk lines are all very popular.
I think people get mad when the design is lame or ugly. People don't want a design that is just a ball/gears anymore than they want a design that's just a dog.
