>>6614128>The morality systemWhat a joke. You can pick the holier than thou do-gooder or the school shooter edgelord, it's not Law or Chaos in the cool way people imagine. I dropped the game around the theme park place, edgelord showed up and it's even worse of a character than fucking Silver. At least Silver shows some development with Crobat, still waiting on the other kid.
Good if you're still a weeb that gets off Gary Stu antiheroes. If somebody remembers that pasta, "cold outside, cunning and witty inside" or something along that, that's the kind of fan SMT attracts. Bonus points if they had a Death Note at one point or the weeb still idolizes the serial killer from that series.
TL;DR: SMT, and to some extent Persona, are better on paper when it comes to quality of life features. Played some, dropped all for the same reasons.
-They are grindy unless you have a guide on hand for core mechanics, which aren't even hinted at at all. At least Pokemon gives you random NPCs tucked somewhere.
-Too much edge, not a philosophical deep thought other than Japanese devs scratching the same tropes over and over. Go read a proper book if you think either franchise has a good plot.
-Same tone, which would be cohesive and good but becomes grating before finishing a single game. Baroque/occult/European faux 19th century/chuunis from Japan have been done so many times it's boring.
Pokemon has gen wars over themes and tones, from full Disney to the likes of Plaguemon, with people even comparing Delta Episode to Final Fantasy in a way.
