For me gen 7 was the absolute worse, you weren't the main character of your own game, cut scenes all over the place, the rotomdex, shit structure, poor trainer battles, shit battle gimmick, god awful villains, a "villain" who wasn't actually one because women can't be naturally evil or something.
That's just S/M. I almost dropped there but my friend wanted me to give the games one more shot. US/UM was an absolute tirefire and somehow was even worse than S/M. I realized at that point that GF wasn't ever going to try. My friend wanted me to hold off on a possible gen 7 remake and then they did Let's Go, a game where they answer my request to not hold my hand through everything by proceeding to princess carry the player through it.
Casual crowds loved it though.
It became clear that there was no need to try to make good games like they had to in gens 3 and 4, they could just coast on name and nostalgia alone. Fanboys will continue to eat whatever shit gamefreak puts on their plate.
Each game they will attempt to stretch what they can get away with to maximize profit.
If gen 7 is your favorite even after enduring the dark ages of the franchise, good on you, but jesus christ.
