Ferrothorn is an example of a hazardmon done right since he will always take a pound of flesh from the opponent no matter what if it's chipping HP off a sweeper or punishing switches.

Pokemon is heavily based around roles.
If a Pokemon plays its role extremely well, it's a lot harder for it to get powercrept, even by mons with better stats.

But ferrothorn has a better defensive typing, more useful hazards, along a worse but still decent ability that has different purposes, and ferrothorn has actual offensive presence. Toxapex might be better overall, but it is not better "in every way" just in defensive stats, status and recovery.

>Weak to fire: a common offensive type, especially now with heavy duty boots. Pretty bad type to be weak against.

Yes, but because each gen introduce few good pokemon, not because each gen is substantially better than the previous gen.

There is some power creep with the legendaries though, excluding Kyogre, which was a mistake, they keep getting more powerful with each game.

Ferrothorn's 4x weakness is a massive flaw in its defensive typing, Pex gets Toxic Spikes, and Pex doesn't need offensive presence because it can still put on pressure with fear of a Scald or Knock Off.

It does not get synthesis, it's not powercrept by Toxapex (they are completely different), it doesn't "set up stealth rock and die", if you're using ferrothorn as a lead you're retarded. And for the yawnfags, ferrothorn has historically been pretty good in ubers and even usable in AG, formats where basically nothing is banned.

The only old pokemon that are good right now are Slowbro, Clefable, and Nidoking, and those are because they got access to broken shit later on + benefitted from new mechanics. Most other gen 1 pokemon are left in the dust.

out of the 27 mons currently at A- rank or higher in OU, 17 originated in B2W2 or earlier (an alomost 10 years old game).
If you're gonna argue that they are carried by things they acquired that didn't exist in previous generations (abilities, megas, fairy typing or w/e), I'd argue back that first of all; since it's literally impossible for gen2 lax to face off against scorbunny and second; we lost many broken things through the gens that we'd consider broken if they were to be released today like gen1's crit ration, permanent weather, megas and Z, etc.
