It doesn't have that "oomph" that legendaries nowadays have. Needs a better ability for starters.. Even its Megas had mediocre abilities.
Berserk would be nice.

Change Unerve to work on on all items, not just Berries.

It would indirectly buff TTar, which doesn't exactly need the help right now, but I still think it'd be manageable.

It is wrong. MMY not having to deal with Recoil having a better speed tier that lets it outspeed stuff like Mega Gengar makes it better. It's A- rank in gen 7 Ubers with Lunala, Ferrothorn and Magearna. It's totally fine. Not the best pick ever but definitely still good enough to be worth using on some teams. A- might seem underwhelming for its BST but you can say that about a lot of Ubers somewhere flailing around in C ranks with shit like Ribombee and Muk Alola.

Your arguments make no sense other than taking up a Mega slot but it's Ubers, there aren't exactly many good Megas aside from Gengar or Salamence to pick from in the first place. Who gives a shit if it takes more from Foul Play? It's not supposed to be taking Foul Plays from fucking Yveltal in the first place. Yes, it has less power than LO Mewtwo but it's still powerful enough without the recoil drawback. It doesn't require EV investment for defense, you run full speed and full special attack. It's pretty much unanimously agreed that MMY is better than regular Mewtwo. These "cons" are either borderline irrelevant or don't outweigh the better speed and no recoil aspect.

No, you run Defense EVs to survive Shadow Sneak and Extreme Speed from Marshadow, Giratina, Rayquaza, Arceus, Zygarde.

Unnerve now prevents the use of all items. Calyrex loses Unnerve and gets something else so that it doesn't directly outclass Mewtwo.
Maybe also give it an exclusive item like the armor from the first movie. Could slightly boost its defenses and give its moves better accuracy like it's getting help from the machine with targeting.

i would say it needs a move that boosts all stats. Something to put it on par with a kyogre water spout in rain. Precipice blades. whatever Necrozma is. Geomancy Xerneas. It needs to hit harder than Zacian crowned or mega Rayauaza. It should also be able to run support like arceus. Tapus terrain is another ability that gives a Pokémon an imidiate buff so something like that.
