Digimon was never about collecting, but about raising your one and only bro. There's also many different types of Digimon games, spanning entirely different genres. As such, most of them never supported the cross compatibility which allowed Pokemon fans to build a collection over time.

The World games were the only leg up they had on not 100% copying Pokemon and they refused to perfect it. Now Legends Arceus is coming out and will probably blow it out of the water. Such a shame because I really liked Next Order.

The Story games are somewhat recent though. Digimon never exactly have a "mainline" identity of games like Pokemon always has. Digimon World 1, 2, and 3 are radically different RPGs despite sharing the same name. World X was a kind of hack & slash dungeon crawler. The DS games sort of drew from World 3, but games like Re:Digitize follow after World 1.

Dexit blew up because Pokemon was built around collecting from the start, and set the expectation that things would always be that way. Until Sw00Sh.

But this is a monster taming series, and there's so many color swaps that have different evolution paths(some of which are also just color swaps) and you have to keep up with all of that on top of some unique monsters as well. By being the most popular non-kitchen-table format wizards shifted their attention to it and started printing cards specifically for use in commander. It broke standard, it ruined legacy, and it made them forget that modern was even a thing. Uro, 4-color Omnath, Golos, Hogaak, many such cases. I'm not even going to talk about the LotR or 40k products, the absolute final nail in the coffin for any sense of artistic integrity WotC ever had.

Cube is the only format they CAN'T ruin.

You're not supposed to collect all the Digimon, you're supposed to have one digimon partner that evolves overtime into new forms, and eventually dies and gets reincarnated as a new digimon. There is no collecting complete monster-dexes, unlike pokemon, which was founded on the very idea.

And if anyone was comparing Pokemon gen 8 to Digimon, it was not because the number of monsters it was because of the shit presentation.

My commanders are Zur, K'rrik, and Nethroi. I hate cube because half the fun of the game is pouring over databases and designing decks myself. Actually playing only makes up half the enjoyment, cube removes that for me.

Designing cubes is this on a macro level. You're not just designing one deck, you're designing every possible deck you can get out of it. The challenge is to make all the archetypes you want to showcase viable against all the other archetypes.

And before you ask, my commanders are Avacyn Angel of Hope, Zada, Sharuum, Angry Omnath, and Sygg River Cutthroat.

Nethroi is just my PEAK casual build when I feel like meme'ing. You have good taste anon, fwiw I had more decks than this but downsized when COVID went into full swing since my decks usually trend upwards of several hundreds of dollars and I wasn't playing. The market went up because of scalpers so I took advantage and sold a few off. I'm sure I'll get more later.

Maybe try playing games that aren't World 1 and it's spin-offs. Pretty much no other Digimon game is structured like that.
