I recently played oras for a third time to give the nu gens a last chance and I just can't. I want to go back and play 1-5th gens with a twist. I've recently been watching PC on youtube and I don't think I want to go full kaizo autism. Should I play some romhacks or get into nuzlockeing the vanilla games?

nuzlockes can be a lot of fun provided you set up a rule set that *you* enjoy using.
for myself, it includes always boxing my starter and usually using pokemon exclusive to the gen im in (IE using only hoenn pokemon in an Emerald run). this way it isnt pidgey and ratata every game.

also duplicate clause, you'd want to apply that too.

I never played USUM but I was asleep for most of my Moon playthrough. I've heard it only gets worse in LG and SwSh.

Why 6th out of curiosity?
There's not much separating it from the even older Gens as there is the amount of differences from Gen 7 on like the lack of National Dex or map design.

I think a big part of it is the graphics. I find all the 3ds games fairly ugly, primitive 3D. I don't like the region, the dialogue heavy story, mega evolution as a concept, the sudden decrease in difficulty. National dex means nothing to me, i appreciate a good regional dex and XY had a good one, I'll give it that.

A lot of this sounds like you didn't enjoy it the first time round and won't give it another shot. Kalos is a beautiful mess, and a wealth of wasted potential. Give it another shot and I promise you'll find something you like more than a regional dex.

Perhaps. I've played Y twice now once with and without the exp. share and it just didn't do it for me. I don't like "don't use it" as a solution, having to ignore parts of the game that should be the centerpiece doesn't feel good to me.

This is factually not true. Yes on paper shit like Necrozma do seem hard compared to the earlier games but then you have to remember USUM has

>Roto buffs
>Pokemon amie bullshitery
>better multi-exp
>infinite TMs and no HMs
>Megas in post-game
All of this shit stacked on top of each other means that you can cheese anything the game throws at you one way or another

I think it is intended to be a post game mechanic. You don't get a majority of the stones until the post game. It's there to help younger players out, giving them an ace if all they are doing is training a few pokemon.

Gen 6 is definitely more new than old. I would consider 4 and 5 to be transitional games, with 6 as the first true "nu-pokemon"
