Pokemon's competative direction can best be described as everyone sweeps, especially with max aistream the platonic ideal of a g-max move, it is not longer a game of switch ins or prediction but who can get their shell smash or unburden off quickest. I would boil down the worst of this to tailglow. A move that was only on a bad pokemon in gen 3, and then on a very good pokemon with manaphy. This change meant that a move that causes 3 stat changes was no longer a unique move to make up for a bad pokemon, but a standard, now there are numerous moves that give large stat changes.
However this isn't a clear divide of post gen 5 and pre gen 5, in terms of moves. I chose gen 5 because of the obvious power herb geomancy. In fact most tiers play like older Ubers, ubers being so fast paced was reason enough to avoid it. Another reason for the direction of pokemon being more toward sweepers is moves, it is common to have brave bird and close combat be on pokemons move sets. Comparatively choice items also raise a pokemons power, and yet have a very restritive drawback, for a fast pokemon with a life orb and flare blitz the only counterplay is letting it die to recoil after 3 KO's
