>>46646112>Why not just give Ash a mega charizard or heracross or some shitBecause up until the current series, the writers (or maybe TPC themselves) had a shitty rule that ash could only capture pokemon originating in the region he's traveling in, with only two exceptions: aipom which he caught in kanto before traveling to sinnoh and gligar which he caught in sinnoh, but BOTH pokemon had new gen 4 evolutions so it still fit the mold. Since no kalos pokemon (besides the mythical diancie) had mega evolutions, they just opted for giving greninja a new form. They could have just brought back his charizard honestly, but they already brought it back at the end of unova.
In short, the writers are dumbasses.
