Because Exeggutor felt like a bit too much to me. And giving gym leaders starters always feels very off. I also couldn't do shit with Parasect and Leafeon feels iffy so I went with eggs.

And I'm going for Gardenia. I always thought it was weird that she uses a Turtwig, it doesn't seem right. I also took away her illegal Cherrim. Now it's a sun team that uses some of the pokemon that her B2W2 team has, as well as features the new Eeveelution introduced in her generation. I mean really, why make a new Grass Eevee and have a Grass gym leader that doesn't show it off? Not sure if I'd rather have Tropius or Leafeon come out first, could go either way.

I agree, I used a gen 4 moveset for my Gardenia. Using a modern moveset is cheating. Same if you do a gen 1-3 leader and you include the phys/spec split.

Not targeted at OP but so many fixed teams try to add Pokémon randomly because they’re strong Pokémon of that type or just to be quirky and not use Monotypes. They just come off as bland. Not saying GF does any better all the time but it defeats the purpose of an improvement

It just feels silly to have the super serious esper have the goofy palmtree monster. Plus its one of Blue's iconic mons. Makes more sense for her to just have 2 Kadabras, Kadabra is already a monster and her having 2 really emphasizes that she's where the difficulty spikes

I thought it was weird how his BW gym is all honey but doesn't have a thematic mon for it, and then his B2W2 gym is all silk but doesn't have a spider or cocoon mon for it. I tried to fix that, give him a little of both. I also want to give his artistic nature more of a showing, since it's absent in his fight. The Dwebble feels completely out of place, and is only there since it's a new bug that gen, so I dropped it out, replacing it with a Heracross that he uses in the World Tournament. The only thing I might change on another draft is fitting in something that matches his belt buckle.

Avoiding dupes is pleb design. If you can get two unique sets out of a single line and it makes a lot of sense for the trainer to have multiple, they should. Sabrina having two Kadabras, which are the og psychic boss mon, makes sense for her canonically and in her gameplay role

Probably my last go at this, I'm fixing Valerie. Fairy is my favorite type and it bothers me that they fucked her up.
First of all, 5 pokemon, it's stupid that every leader in gen 6 only have 3 mons, she's the 6th gym she can have 5. And I had to drop Mr. Mime, it doesn't fit her theme or personality at all. She is supposed to be a poised yet fierce power, she has her hidden fangs strategy, and can communicate psychically with her pokemon. So I'm working with all of that. She also get some fighting type coverage for steel counters, as well as Gardevoir's psychic coverage for poison types. I think the only reason she wasn't given Altaria and Gardevoir before was because E4 member have them, but that's stupid. I'm really on the fence about a Granbull instead of Togekiss, since her clothes are apparently stupidly heavy so a muscly tough fairy mon fits, but it just doesn't suit the aesthetic.

Staryu is the initial target because it'll keep Starmie alive, but, Starmie while strong, whittles itself down with Life Orb without Life Dew support.

Same reason Bruno has two Onixes. Snorlax is a punching bag for his fighting pokes and walls smartasses that show up with Kadabra.

Setting up rain dance to use a coverage move thats going to quad hit most of its targets is a waste. Raichu is good in rain because of Thunder's accuracy buff alongside surf on raichu. Nasty Plot is a better option if you're not going to use Thunder and fits better on the slot than Charm for Raichu's purposes.

I'd take away Nidoqueen and replace it with Jynx and give Bruno Hitmontop, take away Donphan and give Chuck Heracross but pretty solid for the most part. Also I am in favour of demoting Lance from Champion. Having 2 Dragon aces in Gen II was retarded

I made full teams for the Kimono Girls. I gave them all a Bellossom and Sudawoodo mainly because there weren't enough dark types in gen 2 to round out Zuki's team, plus they fit their "dancing" theme.

Falkner and Bugsy should have been interchangeable first bosses so them having similar levels and being higher level is fine. Falkner's moveset is just an IQ check anyways.
Falkner is guilty of using absolutely pathetic mons in-game and there are no birds that make reasonable one-stage walls or have any NFE utility.
Bugsy's entire team gets stomped by Fire and Rock, its an endurance test more than anything. Seismic Toss on Heracross might be extreme though.
