This has always bothered me. Sure, you can do the link thing and they'll mention your character, which is even dumber because he has your same name, so if anything it's confusing. But Cheren and Bianca are so involved and yet the only good trainer of that trio is just MIA. For the games with the "best story," they handle the previous player character worse than GSC did with Red.
