But if you weren't around for the initial boom of pokemon in japan, the US, across the globe, you will never fully understand exactly where this franchise comes from. You will never understand exactly why a simple gameboy game is "less advanced mechanics" is so appealing, because you weren't there.
You will never fully appreciate what this franchise is if you didn't live through Pokemon blowing up and becoming bigger than Jesus.
The TCG collection boom lately is the closest I've ever seen to pokemon being as massively popular as it was back when it first began, and even now it's still not the same.
Newer gen games are still good (Except Sw/Sh honestly), but nothing can compare to the hype back in the 90s and early 2000s.
