Anyway, Pokemon isn't trying to compete with digital pets even though the franchise is a perfect fit for it. The one time they did try to do it they failed to include any actual elements that are important to v-pets.

Not releasing other versions of the Pokéwalker with other games or even selling them separately was such wasted potential holy shit. Those things probably cost only 50 cents to produce but people would easily pay twenty bucks for them.

It's not really innovation that makes Pokemon a strong brand, but rather its monster designs. And that's a static thing. They can destroy the competition by just existing.

Yeah. To be honest I think one of these days Digimon is going to end up with its own Stardew Valley at some point.

Where some indie dev is going to come out with a monster raising game like Digimon World, but with mechanics closer to Tamagotchi or Neopets and it's just going to roll over Bandai's half-baked RPGs.

I don't mean Digimon World with the same problems the RPGs have shoved in. I mean actual good mechanics, removal of the stats system/training for something more based around the Digimon getting more powerful the better you raise them.
