Playing Dragon Quest made me realize that Charizard is a complete rip off of Mandrake Marauder from DQV (1992)
they really just removed the armor and the weapons and called it a pokemon lmao

A lot of Gen 1 Pokemon were very obviously "inspired" by Dragon Quest's monsters.

Venusaur does sort of resemble the salamander enemies from DQ4.
It's a stretch compared to other examples, but it would explain why the Bulbasaur line goes from having spots to having warts.

Why? The only thing Pokémon has going for it is the Pokémon themselves. Just look at the Dragon Quest Monsters games on the DS. They are somehow more ambitious than SwSh were.

DQM is a better series than Pokémon. Play Pokémon for Pokémon, but if you don’t want the Pokémon themselves, play a different game
