Depends on what you want out of a pokemon game. My favorite thing about it is the pokemon variety. I kept finding new mons I never would have expected on my first run, the regional dex is fucking huge.

But the story isn't anything special, it's not like offensively bad or anything it's just kinda there, and it's the first pokemon game that just felt stupidly easy imo, so I wouldn't play this for a challenge even with EXP share off. But I would play it for a casual and comfy quick run.

I think XY was at its best when people were actively playing it. Launch window with everyone on the PSS was some of the most fun I've had with one of these games. But they clearly put more energy into the online, social and competitive features of this game than the single player content. The Gyms aren't super memorable and the post-game is standard. So I don't know if it's quite worth playing today. Its biggest strengths have sort of come and gone.

Only good thing that hasn't been incorporated into the newer games is the convenient multiplayer.
>region is inconsistent in design, terrain feels stapled on + tonne of random KANTOOOOO references

If you're going to play a gen 6 game at least play OR/AS, at least those are based on decent games even if the modern reimagining is very lacking.
as much as I'm aggressively disinterested in 7/8 and won't touch them now they're at least a little bit more interesting than X/Y even if it's for only the one playthrough

You missed out. It was only good during the first 3 days when everyone thought ir was good and hadn't reached the 4th gym yet. After that the honeymoon was quickly over and it became apparent how mediocre the games were.

Replaying it right now. So, yes. It's a good game that has the classic feel with improved graphics. I love the amount of Pokemon available during the game allowing you to replay over and over using different teams.

Replay value was kind of shit, but it's one of my favorites.

I forgot why people shit on it, but if it's for the poor story-telling, I never paid attention to the story anyways. It's all in my headcanon. Plus, one Pokémon from every region in your party to a total of 6. Only X and Y could do this.
