I love Gen 5 too and I wish I had known why the games went to shit but you need to stop parroting this meme.

Gen 7 and 8 were in every sense of the word, their own kind of "reboots".
That's apparent in them dropping everything Gens 1-6 were going for to push a shitty gimmick and barebones gameplay.

Gen 8 feels even more like a reboot since it cut pokemon, the creatures used to be the most important thing about pokemon, since gen 5 or 7 they only want to make visual novels with a bit of rpg gameplay

Gen 5 is everything wrong with Pokemon, though-- and Gen 6 was just as bad because it tried to be Unova again but worse.
The series is at its best when it's like Gen 7 and 8 and is willing to try something new.

You're right about Gen 7. Those games tried everything to not be like every Pokemon game and won in some aspects and failed in others. But Gen 8 is the pokemon game that's the most 'they sell the same game every year'

At least it was a natural extension that didn't sacrifice anything, though.
Gen 6 still is in the likeness of Gen 5 which makes it somewhat enjoyable if you liked base BW.
Meanwhile Gen 7 and 8 completely removed themselves from the formula for the worst without offering the player any incentive to stick with the games. Even the story from SM-SWSH is a slog to play through, with the one exception being LGPE because it dared to do something different and didn't gut any semblance of agency the player has in exploring.
