XY's UI is fine. Not a big fan of some of the decisions they made.
HGSS making everything accessible through the really good looking bottom screen was amazing. And I like the different pockets of the bag. But, especially on emulator, i fucking HATE moving throught he bag.

SM and USUM's UIs are so much more soulful than the Gen 5-6 ones. The UI from XY would be bland and forgettable if it weren't shitted up by the PSS slowing everything down.

I've skipped USUM after playing regular SM. It's the only mainline Pokémon release I'm missing some sort of version of. Is it worth getting? How much difference is there between SM?

It's SOULFUL because you have to plan what you want to carry around, not like Gen 4+ where you can just go around with 50,000 useless X items and berries that you'll never use anyway. It's more realistic, and literally every other RPG does it this way.

It has a lot of small improvements, less intrusive intro/credits cutscenes, harder battles, and a LOT more things to do in the postgame. But the main story doesn't deviate too much from base SM apart from the climax, which is completely different in USUM.
If you liked SM then USUM is absolutely worth the buy, but if you thought it was average to bad, then pass.
