Given how many random factors are involved with getting just the right moves, nature, IVs and gender, people prefer to skip over the busywork and get competitve ready pokemon right away. Breeders get asshurt about this because they spent ten billion hours grinding for the same thing and have sunk cost fallacy.
I can understand if they enjoy breeding for breeding's sake, but breeding being a precursor to playing online is pure cancer. I'm glad the games have been adding features like hyper training, mints and bottle caps.
