I don't know who I'm taking this time around except for the Grass starter because it's the only one I haven't used yet. Already been with Garchomp, Luxray and Lucario so they're out.

desu it's a bit of a shame that the early game is so dominating cause once you get to mid-game with stuff like Toxicroak, Drapion & Hippowdon able to be used it adds a lot of good power that otherwise goes untapped. Even more so in Platinum with Gliscor, Houndoom, Altaria, etc.

My first run had none of those, had Empoleon and Crobat and whatever else, I think Tentacruel. I never bothered with eggs or pseudos before postgame.
Also Staravia and Luxio are ugly as fuck never wanted to touch them.

Platinum players that have lots of new options but just get lazy and stick with the DP Sinnoh Dex stuff that's found early/easily. I bet they're the same type of player that whines about Johto's team building options.

IKR, there are the starters to choose from, pidgey, zubat, mareep, wooper, a magikarp to make a gyrados, bellsprout, heracross, oddish, etc.
All decent potential team members before the 2nd gym.

You can easily make a team out of gen4's cross gen evos alone, making a team really isn't a problem if you're not autistic about only having ubermons in your team

Having just played through platinum again, while you have more options it is annoying trying to get a good spread just on the fly. Every other game I can basically wing it and end up with something effective. Ended up needing to rotate things a fair bit.

Though my biggest issue is you basically have a 5 man team for most of the game, cause you gotta have a Bidoof HM negro. Worse if you didn't want a flying or water type initially. So whoever gets left out needs grinded up latter.

It's Pokemon. Whether or not a Pokemon is a "shitmon" is such a moot point when trying to argue selection because almost everything is usable in this piss-easy series.

To be fair, there's no reason to go for Rapidash if you happened to pick Chimchar since Infernape is just better in every way. Roserade is one of the best Poison-types too since it rapes Gastrodon and other bulky Water-types

Not even, you can head in and out of your base to reset it and keep talking to the same person. You can also capture 50 flags for the Trainer Card star the same way.

Mismagius and Honchkrow are version-exclusive. The only other pre-E4 crossgen evo is Weavile and you only get Sneasel in the slog of a path to Snowpoint.

You can look at each routes encounters yourself if you don't believe me. It's consistently the same 6 lines on every route for the first few gyms, with usually 2 Kanti pokemon and 1 Johto pokemon exclusive to a new route. The only other ways to get pokemon at that point are Headbutt trees, which don't change by route, and fishing, which is also limited to a few lines.

It's the beginning of the game, your options are going to be somewhat limíted. By the time you reach Azalea you can choose from over a dozen Pokémon families, plus your starter. The variety picks up from there, no excuse to end up using the same things every playthrough.
