Just use your bike and learn to navigate around them. The AI still isn't good but it's getting closer to having pokemon act like real wild animals and you'll have to learn some basics of the wilderness if you want to get by.

The Lake of outrage grass patches are too small to navigate on the shitty bike and it's made worse by the dozens of Galvantula and Golurk too. It's too fucking small.

Visit the Dojo, and talk to the kid in the Eevee costume. They'll ask if you like taking your Pokemon for walks or some shit like that. Then, say no, and you'll be able to explore around as much as you want with no follower.

They’re talking about the large Pokémon that pop up in small patches of grass dedicated to rare/uncommon Pokémon, specifically the one in the center of the lake in the vanilla map. Followers are only enabled in the DLC maps.
