ATB is a kind of turn based, in the same way that round based and speed based are both turn based. Pokemon has traditionally been round based, although that's only obvious in doubles. A more speed based game like Final Fantasy X, Nostalgia, or Bravely Default 2 can have something similar to ATB, but with pauses for the actions rather than a consistent timer regardless of your action. I don't know why these threads keep being made though.
