Genuinely I believe XY had the potential to be incredibly good, but released 70-80% of the way early and dropped all of that. Gameplay wise, I think the stretch from route 1 until the 5th gym was some of the best design in the series.
Then anniversary came up and cut off Z from ever happening because they had to make a new generation with SM, so they couldn't fix their mistakes with the writing, second chunk of the game, and postgame content like they did with DPPt and BW/2

The way the game plays does read as though they were making it full length then had to cut down on the content between each town because they were running out of time. The early game is a much longer stretch than the mid and late game.

They don't. Gen 5 and 6 are built on the same principles like making the gym leaders have only 3 mons and the map design based around 1 HM while all the others are optional.
Both are fine.

X&Y have the decidedly most forgettable cast in the series, for the longest time most people weren't aware that the E4 fire chick was part of Team Flare.

There's a Z when it's a three dimensional environment. Which was the whole point of the switch to 3d on 3ds. If anything masudas statement only CONFIRMS Z was planned. They sure as hell didn't base it off of a math problem.

Also Z was cancelled because of the earthquake in France. Elements were moved to sumo, like zygarde collecting.

DP to Platinum was a big improvement in monster distribution and aesthetics. I don't know if X/Y would have had an aesthetic improvement, but the tail end of the game would have at least been improved drastically had it existed, with better teams and possibly a better implementation of Malva and other such NPCs.

all the worst flaws of the game (shitty distribution, shitty online features, shitty engine, shitty story) are still there. You're effectively just paying $40 for a battle frontier that isn't even as good as emerald.

The story of DP isn't bad but Platinum does make it worse in some ways, but I think it made Gym Leader teams much better, which is something the tail end of XY suffered greatly from all the way up to the E4.

No, Crystal has nice sprites and so did FRLG, but FRLG's tilesets weren't as pretty as Emeralds. Unfortunately, Emerald had dogshit sprites for anything that wasn't from Hoenn and maybe Johto. The Kanto Pokemon sprites are awful and I haven't seen many Johto ones yet, but I think Phanphy and Flaafy are tolerable.

To expound, if Hitmontop had a dynamic animation where it at least got on top of its head/did a handstand before it attacked I think Gen 6 models wouldn't get nearly as much flak.

As it stands I think they're boring. Amie segment screenshots mean nothing to me since it's a closed-off void. It's cool you can interact with your Pokemon but I would prefer their in-battle animations to be more dynamic than the petting simulator.

With that being said, the pixel shit of Gen 5 is pretty weird and I have no idea what causes it. But I prefer those sprites to models still.

not that anon, but just chiming in here to say that hitmontop is one of my all-time fave mon, and it got done so fucking dirty. its idle animation sucks and yes it has that handstand animation for brutal swing (but not rapid spin, or maybe it's the other way around, i can't remember) but you only briefly see that, considering its species name he should be handstanding the whole ass time

Aw man, I just watched a whole SwSh battle video looking for Hitmontop's handstand and it never did it, even for Rapid Spin and Triple Axel. If that other anon hadn't posted saying it was for Brutal Swing, I'd have sworn your pic was an edit. Why would you just get my hopes up like that.

Anyway, I was talking more like having it transition from that back and forth stance to a hand stand for spinning moves like Rapid Spin. The absence of little details like that is why nobody calls these games soulful unless they're trolling. But even if they didn't do that, even if that was too hard, how hard was it to just have it balance on its head and wobble back and forth? A side game did it years ago.

....i'm not saying there's no instance of it standing upright in other media, just that it's idle animation for the past 3 gens doesn't make any fucking sense and is so bland, compared to colo/xd all those years ago where they nailed it. there's not too many pokémon that stand upside down on the regular, so you'd think that the one whose design revolves around that, they'd incorporate that into its animation.

also... you're misrepresenting what i'm saying, i didn't say there was a citation that says it must stand upside down the whole time, i said there was a citation when you were disputing the fact that its species/category name is the handstand pokémon
