There really isn't, they're shitting out what's essentially a somehow worse-looking remaster of DP and shills still jump to Gamefreak's defense like their lives depend on it. With hordes of fans who act like you're insulting their mothers when anyone makes the mildest, most reasonable criticism of Pokemon games it's no wonder GF doesn't bother putting effort into them anymore.

Maybe? I don't dislike either of his outfits. But May and Brendan's old designs are just kind of better. They actually look like people you'd call Pokemon trainers. ORAS May and Brendan, not so much. Especially ORAS May, she looks like some girl that lives in a suburban neighborhood, not a trainer traveling through the wild catching and training Pokemon.

But the character redesigns for ORAS were shit and they should've just stuck with the original designs.

You're right, ORAS was lazy...the Sinnoh remakes will be even lazier. I also liked almost all of the redesigns and thought they had more character than the originals (though I don't dislike most of the original versions either).
Even if you don't care for a redesign, it's not like that affects the old version - that still exists on top of the new design. I'd rather have something new than the same old shit. And it's not like ORAS were the only games with altered designs, all the remakes have them except BDSP.

Better received now in an era where the internet is far more widespread than back in the 2000s where opinions can be spread much easier than ever before and not as many modern fans have seen the original designs to begin with. That’s not a great way of comparing the reception for character designs for the originals RSE and ORAS. Don’t get me wrong there are a some ORAS designs I like with Maxie, Archie, Courtney and Steven but I like those designs because they were updated while retaining the elements that make them recognisable from the originals. The issue I personally have with the some of the ORAS is that they were borderline unrecognisable from the originals which no other redesign in past and till this day did anything like it.

They did the same thing for ORAS as they did for HGSS: port over the existing postgame facility from the current gen's non-remake games. That it was an objective improvement for the latter and not for the former is more a symptom of Gamefreak's ever-decreasing stockpile of fucks to give. I still had fun with ORAS because I always loved Hoenn even without the Frontier, though I'll admit that not all the changes were positive; Granite Cave's redesign is particularly irritating and just screams of trying to not scare off lazy children.

It’s because Pokémon has well and truly became a multi-media franchise, and Sinnoh characters have had their designs ‘finalised’ due to their appearance in other media that is easily accessible.

Past Gen characters were far less prevalent in merchandising and other media so there was freedom to play with their designs and modernise them.
