Generally, just draw a lot. I've been casually drawing for my entire
18 year life. There is some talent in play, though, otherwise it'd look terrible because I don't really do studies or anything.
I like playing around with perspective. That's a generally smart thing to do I think. Draw the creature from above, in a crazy action pose from the lower left, whatever. Make it exist in a threedimensional space.
You got to believe in your drawing, basically. You have to be convinced that it's alive, or else you can't make it convey shit.
Sounds autistic, it is, I am.
Aesthetically I just throw shit at the wall and go with my gut on whether it looks good or not. Most of the time I have the basic visual impulse already worked out in my mind though. So I'm just putting it down onto the paper and going off of that.
I'm just rambling, sorry. It's almost 3am.
