I think FRLG is technically better but RBY has its own charm. It just depends on if you want to experience the original first or play something a little more polished. You should play both

Red and Blue are great, they feel more like small indie games than huge franchise games, I always recommend playing the OG Red or Blue. FRLG is great if you like the GBA, I enjoyed comparing them to the originals so I think its a good idea to play both.

The pokemon storage in RB is hellish. If I started with RB and didn't know they would fix the storage I probably would stop playing pokemon. FRLG is a simplified and polished experience for beginners. I like them both and think they complement each other. I like the graphics and sound in RB and the gameplay and polish of FRLG.

That is a rather good point. I guess OP should start with Red and Blue. I personally don't like the games very much but they are the foundation for everything.

They look fine, and FRLG aren't much better. They do play like shit though, the poor movesets and combat oversights (FUCK BELLSPROUT) and bugs make them pretty hellish to get through at times, but overall I find the experience rewarding and makes you really appreciate the GBA era of games.

RB is fun to do solo sweeps with. Blastoise can learn Ice Beam and Earthquake to cover its only two weaknesses and destroy everything, or you can even use the early Moon Stone on a Nido and use one of them. FRLG is more fun for balanced gameplay and leveling a full team, but gen 1 is still something that should be experienced, I think. Even if it’s just a solo run
