hard disagree, even the traditional gyms-based gameplay can work in an open world with fw twiks.

X and Y weren't bad though, just not good. They were more a victim of being the first 3D game and being abandoned for mobile games and gen 7, which introduced far more problems to the franchise

How would they do routes then? How would enemy trainers work? And if there aren't any how does the player even get money?

Roads and paths that lead between towns. Think Skyrim, you can always follow roads or wander off into wilderness. The only difference is there's no artificial barrier keeping you moving in one direction (which makes the game linear)

Random encounters similar to pokemon. You think you're the only one out look for pokemon? Let them randomly show up in areas, can also have fixed and rare trainers. Would add a lot of depth.

Not every single gameplay mechanic or design choice from previous titles needs to be translated over, especially if we're going with the assumption that PLA will be more experimental than previous Pokemon games from Game Freak. For example, we already know that trainers or leagues don't exist in legends (at least not in name). New mechanics can be put in their place instead. I'm sure that this can be done while keeping the same feel of Pokemon if that's what you're concerned about. Since Legends seems to have a focus on the exploration of Sinnoh and creating a Pokedex, maybe the player could earn money by exploring new locations or by catching and defeating pokemon (including boss-level pokemon)?

remakes historically underperform compared to generation-starting games. DP might sell like shit compared to the first three remakes but enough that TPC feels comfortable outsourcing even more going forward. arceus panders the BOTW normalfag crowd so it'll do well enough

Open world is shit anyways, pretty regardless of what the game is except maybe something that's just a mod sandbox like Elder Scrolls.
So Legends will probably get 11/10 reviews from all you ADHD zoomers but it will really just suck as much as BotW and ruin the franchise staples.

You're drooling if you won't have to battle Named characters at points who similarly to yourself have pokémon they trained in battle against wild ones of the region as progression checks anon. Fuck, I can even see them having settlements in the rough spots the towns of modern Sinnoh appear in where you'll have to battle the village elder or leader to prove yourself worthy of recieving the knowledge/MacGuffin already, don't know why everyone's spacking out over no trainers. there's no trainers to battle for money in endgame in Sword, but scrabbing items from raids and the WA's gets you enough to not go poor all the same, not as if you're situated in a market town hub you could sell items you find in the wil-OHWAITAFUCKINGMINUTE!

TPC have no agency in core game releases anon. That was Game Freak's choice to pass them off after Nintendo put the order for another Pokémon game in, as they always do as publisher of the series.
Production of core games and its carts are the only thing in the brand TPC don't have a say in, I don't get why you retards can't understand Nintendo are the ones pushing this timescale, because they get a fat console sale with every two games sold. I'm with you with that, DLC was a proof of concept of sorts, I'd guess. Expand on the OW-ish WA while trying to make a 3D mapped region. They've said Legends is what way they want to take the core games in anyway.
