A wooper and a tentacool do not share weaknesses, the main problem of monotype teams can disappear if you use your brain for more than a couple of seconds. For those types with more weaknesses like grass, ice or rock, you can easily take advantadge of battle effects and type gimmicks that help them, terrain, weather, powders, aurora veil, stealth rocks, etc. I value creativity with the strategies themselves over "themes". No one cares if your grass leader has sunflora and florges because it is a florist, in the end, fairy and grass have really poor synergy, and florges ability, besides only working in doubles, can be easily replaced by aromatherapy.
Feeling the need to break the type synergy without heavy reasoning gives the impression you dont really know what you are doing, you should only break the monotype if its really needed. If you want to make a trainer that doesn't follow the monotype strictly, you could just not make it a gym leader and you'd have more room for creativity.
