I didn't really like gen 4 in general but it did have great starters
Gen 5 is also hard to choose from but that's because while pig is the best there are so many good fire and fighting type pokemon early in the game it's kind of a waste to have starter with those types

Gen 5 is one of the only gens where I like all three starters in their base form. I don't much care for any of their evolutions, though.
