These optional paths are tiny in comparison with any previous game, so there isn't much exploration
There are annoying cutscenes wasted on your npc "friends" instead of something more interesting

Glad all of that filler is gone forever, i just want to catch, collect, breed and train my pokémon, which is in the end the only thing that matters on every mainline game.
For aventures i have already spin-offs such as Mistery Dungeon, Colosseum and maybe Legends Arceus soon.

Gen 6 would have been great if not for Go's mass market appeal and them rushing out gen 7. It feels like a real pokemon game in psuedo 3d and not the gen 7 gen 8 hallway simulator despite still being inferior to every past game in exploring. Kalos is also a nice region with some great pokemon (but I love every region's pokemon so a bit bias)

I know, had they stalled the ball on Gen III, they may have improved the game, but they rushed it out to try and keep the games alive after Pokémania died which led us here.
They didn't rush Gen VII though, that came in their three year new game turnaround they'd always operated under ironically enough since Gen III (mind, given Tajiri's projects spun out 9 years it must seem like they rushed and not the fat it was piss-easy to port a GB game to GBA and add more colours to it).

>Not very many new Pokemon
>Region is literally just a circle
>Too easy. I beat the elite four with just two pokemon
>I didn't like how some stuff like gible and larvitar became way too easy to get.

I ended up playing this one more than SM/SWSH just because of how fun the meta was for me.

After megas showed up in Gen V everyone though it was stupid and that they were ruining the game by making it digimon. When you actually played the game they were alright, not too obtrusive, the designs were neat in most cases (which is weird because of how many shitmon third evos get sharted out STILL).

So you embrace them, because megas are here to stay! oh wait..

and the fact that you had a lot of freedom to do the gyms in any order you like

Ruins of Alph, and that connection that it had to the nearby cave, tin tower, the whirl islands that one tunnel system all over johto that has dunsparce, and all of Kanto.
Plus the freedom to do the Gyms in whatever order you wanted

The entirety of northwest Hoenn, and the caves held within, that magma rock after winnowa's gym, the route below the haunted mountain, the entire desert, a majority of the underwater, the route between Pacifilog and Slateport, as well as the sky Pillar, and secret base locations, both in the originals and the remakes. Then there's the Battle Frotier in Emerald.

The route between pastoria and hearthome, the walking with pokemon place in hearthome, the route and cave under the cycling route, the entire underground, the cave between jubilife and Oreburgh, that whole back area of floroma town with the fuego ironworks, Iron Island, the Ruins that had Unown, the postgame areas like the battle island, Regigigas' temple, and that cave in Victory road that led to Shaymin's place in DP, turnback cave, and the other lakes that had azelf and Uxie and in Pt the other parts of Mt coronet to get the orbs for dialga and palkia.

That one cave to get cobalion, and the entirety of East Unova, plus some other areas that were in BW2 that I can't think of.

Then we get to XY and these kinds of options start to dwindle, with

Then there's some in Alola, but I've reached my char limit. It's evident that gens 1-5 had significantly MORE optional paths, the gens that came after.

I personally liked HMs, it just felt natural that you used your Pokemon for clearing obstacles and traversal, and adds to the sense of adventure imo.
