I don't even know anymore, I grew up with one game boy color and a gba, played a few ds games in emulators and as you know ds emulators didn't have multiplayer back then and barely have now so I never traded, to be honest I don't even want traded pokemon because I don't know if it's owner used cheats or glitches to get it and I prefer getting everything myself, yes I'm a purist autist and not even that purist since I used emulators.
Now they give shit like candies to everyone and if I emulate I can trade with myself for version exclusives and get those event gifts and inject them to my save from that famous project site and destroy every npc with ease, even back then I leveled my starter a lot before facing gym leaders and didn't had much challenge because I was a very advanced kid, not like the current braindead millennials.
Yes I mentioned I'm a purist before but I would use event injections to get event pokemon, I mean what else can I do to catch them all, it's the less cheating way and I don't get to kill my save by using cheats or glitches. Unless 4chan can make a time machine for me and send me back to the first events back in the game boy era so I can grab the Mew, Celebi and everything that came after them. I can't believe I never got a mew in the physical copies because I was not born in the right country and was a kid without internet when all of those events happened, how evil you have to be to lock content that is inside the games code so many kids miss said content forever? Guess what Nintendo I can pirate every game you ever made and inject those events in a matter of seconds, I even make constant backups of event preservation projects incase you decide to take them down out of nowhere, through the decade I collected nearly everything you ever released from gameboy to switch and made physical and digital copies just incase, I even got the entire leaks dammit! Masuda you chose to piss the wrong kid you evil prick
