I never said the old Pokémon have bad designs, in fact, my favourite Pokémon are mostly from the older Gens, so fuck of with that first of all.
Secondly, I am talking about the SUGIMORI ARTWORK specifically. Many Pokémon from Gens 1 - 5 have been stuck with bland and washed out colour palletes, while Gen 6 and above, and especially Gen 8, have recieved nice and full colours. Put the artwork for Incineroar or Cinderace next to Blaziken or Charizard and you will see what I mean.
My point is that the old Pokémon deserve a fresh coat of paint after all these years.
