Can someone explain to me why people are saying the Wild Area is fun?
It seems like a big empty space full of nothing and random generated mons from previous generations that you can just import in anyways.

I honestly don't know anymore. Items are kinda worthless, I've caught all the previous gen's mons and now that I can easily import there doesn't seem much a point of catching them again, and there's literally no game incentive either.
Seems like an exercise in futility.

It's a bunch of connected routes, and it's where raids happen. The design of the Wild Area is generally less important than its purpose.

It's just a great idea that only got half baked in my opinion. The desert area, the area between the railroads, and the giant lake with the island are all very neat. There should've been more variety though. A unique snowy area, a clearly mountainous area, a cave, etc all would've made it much more fun to explore. Also wish there were more interesting structures, like the ring with all the evolution stones and the giant rock in OPs pic. It could've been so much better but it's not a total miss

Its closer to what pokemon should look like. Open world with a controllable camera and pokemon walking around. Now if it can not run at 18 FPS while online, it would be much better.

I like singleplayer too. The series is at its best when you just wander around throughout the story and take your time. There are far better options for multiplayer games

no momentum, you can't get air, can't hop down ledges. you spend 99% of your time in the wild area on the bike and they couldn't even be bothered to make it enjoyable in any way

the fucking bikes in rse were more fleshed out than this shit

It's buyer's remorse. In actuality the wild area serves little to no purpose other than a sandbox raid hub with limited options until the game railroads you through it twice anyway.
It serves no functional purpose for the players agency since every area is blocked off until the game arbitrarily decides it's time for you to go there. They advertised it as a large open world area but it's hardly open world at all with how little options it gives the player in doing anything other than collecting the handful of items and scripted Pokemon that are haphazardely dropped in specific locations.
The real open world game on Switch was LGPE, and soon Legends.

The crux of when the game has been great (at least for me) has also been the NPC slog. Face 30 NPCs in a row you're gonna run out of PP and your team will start to crack

Yeah, that's what happens when they're best utilized, which was part of what made those long dungeons so enjoyable. Though a lot of that challenge can be mitigated easily by having an excess of items or just >>46750119. In general, I think that Pokemon games need both a better carrot and stick to make moving exploring really feel like it's worth something.
