It's more goofy than past Yugiohs but unlike Sun and Moon it does the change really well. The writing is really tight so far I don't expect any dropped plotlines or retcons. Characters that would be one off characters in other Yugiohs reappear and actually do things.

Absolute shit taste. The old formula was stale 10 years before XY. By the end of XY it was straight-up unwatchable. SM was the first series since OS I enjoyed every episode.

You're too dramatic about it but I do think they wasted the school setting when they themselves forced it to begin with. Japs have a history of making generic school anime, so it should have been easy, but the tropes felt underused:
>illima as the perfect boy rival was barely there
>no recurring teachers besides kukui, no recurring students besides the main 6
>not enough olivia or nanu
>skull gang slowly lost all importance to the plot until guzma showed up (too late)
Other things they seemed to set up early on where completely abandoned or used for just 1 episode:
>rockets vs skulls could have been an interesting ongoing sub plot, instead it was just one episode of nothingness
>"togedemaru is a girl btw", they don't do any gags with the stupid cunt the rest of the season
>mimikyu had potential for a sad backstory, but all he got were a jessie bonding episode and a pikachu revenge episode
>nanu having contact with giovanni ultimately meant nothing

Technically XY had continuity with BW (due to Alexa showing up in Decolora), and Korrina reappeared in PM, but yeah XY itself had very little references to previous seasons, unlike any season before or since.

If OP’s dense then you are fucking delusional. How anyone can unironically say this with confidence is honestly baffling. Every single story arc in SM was either rushed or ran at a snail’s pace as well ridden with events that seemingly take place at random and almost never have even the bare minimum of build up. The absolute “best” story arc was the one with AU and Zeraora which had its own problems, including not even having a fucking origin story for Zeraora.

Pokémon is nowhere near peak writing but I wouldn’t recommend SM even if someone was looking for the simplest of Pokémon because the new series has that and does it better

This was the only Pokémon show I watched besides the original one on Netflix and I dropped it after it felt like nothing was happening for like 50 episodes. And then all the stuff from the games kind of just started happening at random points in the story, everything felt so confusing. And Ash felt like such a slacker, like he wasn’t focused on his plan to be Pokémon champion. He beat the 2nd trial captain and just kind of stopped moving forward to the next trial which was dumb.
