Sometimes I feel like this board is kind of harsh on some Pokemon because realistically not every Pokemon is going to be designed to be some top tier sweeper or tank but Malamar genuinely feels like they designed him to do one thing and then very intentionally chose to not follow up on that idea.
You give a Pokemon that evolves by inverting your console a move about inverting the opponent's stats but give them zero fucking way for them to ever pull it off? Why

I had a dream for a minmaxed Mega Malamar (or maybe an evolution) that lowered its speed a little for more bulk and a giant Attack stat. Its signature ability would be a combination of Contrary + Simple. The thought process was, it's pretty much game over if the opponent sets up Sticky Web. If they didn't, he would still be bulky and able to set up with 1 Superpower to get to +2 Attack / + 2 Defense.

The only time you would even BOTHER running that piece of shit is doubles since its only ability functions there. Even then, switching is rare.
If you have to switch out something who's role is supposed to be buffing your other Pokemon's attack power, you shouldn't bother with it at all.

NO. It didn't get one. It got fucking nothing. The problem isn't the stats, its' what they represent. The idea of two fire starters having the same stats would be cool but Lame Freak didn't want their orange pimp to have to compete with anyone so they gave Charizard everything and Typhlosion only one fucking move (a admittedly excellent move but Pokémon with Balanced stats like Typhlosion need actual movepools. Why the fuck does a FLYING lizard have better Rock and ground coverage than a Volcanic Badger. Lame Freak robbed Typhlosion of any identity outside of being "worse Charizard." The ONE time it was placed in VGC required it to be babysat by Mega Charizard Y.

Yep. It just baffles me, Murkrow was clearly designed as a fast glass cannon, then they fucked up Honch all over. Ravens do look puffy and fat due to their feathers and are pretty fast in real life, there was no reason to put that 100 in HP instead of speed. Maybe they wanted to make Honchkrow more defensive, but it dies to the touch of an ice cube.

The most disgusting part is that if its 55 Atk 95 Def were swapped it would actually be a usable Pokemon, and be able to make use of Perish Body without dying in one hit.

I'm convinced that it used to have 95 Def but then Lame Freak remembered it evolves from a Johto Pokémon swapped its Def and Atk so it would be a shitmon.

I like honchkrow, but yeah, the speed is annoying. At least it gets STAB sucker punch though to kinda make up for it. But they definitely should've either swapped its HP and speed or lowered its special attack and raised its defenses so it could actually be bulky to go along with the high HP

Would it kill them to make a contrary mon that isn't tied to superpower or leaf storm for once? Like, I don't need malamar to get psycho boost, but at least give it base 110 SpA so that it can do something besides contrary superpower or that meme acupressure set. At this point it feels like they only know how to make one kind of offensive contrary gimmick.

with that shit speed, all of those are useless. We literally have Arbok to show how Intimidate is shit on a slow mon like this. Unburden would also be shit (besides not thematic): look at hitmonlee and sceptile they're both shit competitively.
I suppose merciless could give it a niche if they give it toxic spikes, but it's still too slow to put it to good use.

I feel like it's hard when there's not a lot of moves for a Contrary mon to use.
You have
>Leaf Storm
>Overheat
>Superpower
>Hammer Arm
>Close Combat
when you take out Draco Meteor (exclusive to dragons) and bunch of signature moves and that's it. 3/5 are Physical fighting type moves and the other two are special moves with completely different types so, at best, you'll only ever be able to run two if you have a mixed attacker.

The worse part is that Charizard sloppy seconds are the absolute best case scenario for Typhlosion since Lame Freak would probably try to be clever and give it 99 speed.

Gamefreak got lazy.
Fun fact, Meganium's and Feraligatr's stats are almost the exact same as Venusaur and Blastoise. Just swap Venusaur's Defense with Sp. Atk and you get Meganium. With Feraligatr's, they at least tried to hide it by rearranging everything but Defense and Speed.

Contrary would arguably make a ton of sense on a Dragon-type, since it's the best depiction of a hydra's "cut off one head/two more take its place" gimmick that isn't Regenerator and I'd expect a hydra Pokemon to be a Dragon-type. I have dreams/nightmares about Contrary Mega Hydreigon sometimes.

I think they could afford being a bit more lenient with what gets the ability and what moves they get to abuse it. I understand it can be a dangerous ability in the wrong hands, but considering the ongoing trend of powercreep, it wouldn't kill them to give it to something with a move other than superpower or leaf storm, if they give it to the right shitmons.

Some examples
>give it to sudowoodo over rattled, and also give it superpower (I know that I said I'm tired of contrary superpower but this is the one case where I would like it)
>give it to solrock as HA, it already gets overheat, run meme special solrock
>give it to dragalge or druddigon, which are slow enough that it wouldn't be broken, but it would boost their value
>give it to hitmontop which has a tradition of standing upside down, plus only user of contrary close combat, can run CC+SP+HA+for attack, def, spd and speed boosts at the cost of sacrificing coverage for ghosts
>give it to electrode, give electrode overheat

as of right now, johto has 4 mons in OU: blissey, slowking, ttar, and skarm.
hoenn has just 2: pelipper and swampert.
crawdaunt would also be OU under the old cutoff, but johto still wins out.

not a clue dude, johto has always had a lot of good mons, some of them aren't so good anymore but it's pretty well represented in OU even to this day.
like, you have scizor, skarm, ttar, heracross, azumarill, forretress, shuckle, quagsire, slowking, suicune and celebi.
aside from slowking (because it's newly good), all of those have enjoyed extended periods of OU relevance.
