I'm having surgery soon that requires me to be bedridden for 2 weeks, meaning I wont have access to my PC; I have also never owned a Pokémon game before. Should I buy a 3DS or a Switch to pass the time? I was thinking 3DS, but I'm sketched about the quality of the physical games if I were to buy any.

3DS. Gives you access to both the DS pokemon games and the 3DS pokemon games.
Alternatively, get a laptop and go nuts with emulating games.

3DS if possible. If you can hack it before surgery, you'll be able to play NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Sega Genesis games, Game Gear games, Master System games, and even PS1 games.

gives you Diamond, Pearl and Platinum (DPP), Heartgold and Soulsilver (HGSS), Blakc and white (BW), Black and White 2 (BW2), X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (ORAS), Sun and Moon (SM) and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (USUM) to choose from whereas the switch only has Sword and Shield

I think 3DS is the right way to go. Even without hacking you can play most of the games legally. Then you also have the high quality spinoffs like the Mystery Dungeon series or Pokemon Conquest.

I'm not sure if hacking lets you play DS games well yet, but an r4 clone flashcard is super cheap like 10-20 dollars, and a barebones 4gb micro sd you probably have laying around is more than enough for 2 weeks.

I guess I'm autistic cause I spend 2 weeks playing new releases and I don't do most of the post game. That's just little extra time spent catching pokemon along the routes so that most of the dex is full by the e4.

I guess if everyone else only catches 6 pokemon that explains why you guys somehow beat them in a day.
