You fail to admit to how much marketing and playing solely to children got that ball rolling. The mechanical concepts at work were decently common at the time, popularized by Dragon Quest 5 and basically all of the Shin Megami Tensei games at that point. It wasn't. fucking. innovative. The only reason Pokemon exploded was because it was dumbed down enough for any mouthbreather to attach to and aggressively shilled by Nintendo. It's why the games can be shit by JRPG standards of the time but hailed as marvels they aren't because of the literal "Babby's First" effect. For fuck's sake, Last Bible 1 and 2 were basically every system in Pokemon years earlier and on the same console, no less.

You're a fucking dipshit. All art is inspired by something else. Tajiri took multiple concepts and fused them into one. No other series besides Pokemon at the time had monsters fighting for you. They were all based on the player character being a fighter too.

Dude Pokemon got big by word of mouth, it took about a year for it to pick up speed. Don't forget it debuted in a dying console. Sure in the west it got the big advertising guns, but by that point Nintendo had reasons to gamble on it, they had seen how strong it was even without a push, so they went all out banking on at least one or two years of hefty revenue. The rest is history and it doesn't line up with your story.
