It's true that you can figure it out with math for a little bit, but like others have pointed out, random chance creeps its way in real quick -- long before you're getting anything decent.
I always wished that GameFreak had just tweaked the Slot Machines to allow a clever player to influence the outcome a bit more, because I thought the presence of casinos really added flavor to the world. I remember one of the smaller "playground rumors" was that bringing a Chansey with you would improve your odds; things like that, where you use Pokemon and items to interact with the machines, would make the Game Corners more like a puzzle than, y'know, gambling.
