Catching them all was always a fucking let down. I did that shit in gen 1 and the only reward I got was this shitty certificate I could print out if I had a gameboy printer.

Me too, but I haven't managed to do it since gen 2. I got pretty close in Gen 5 but finally got everything including mythicals now. It almost saves me money, there's no reason to buy the DP remakes now

I did it too in my ORAS file. I chose to do it in that game because I could put the certificate up on my stupid secret base no one ever goes to.

Make it a living dex in your favorite game, old ones are comfy and a good challenge for gen 3. Catch all Vivillon. Shiny breed some starter fodder so you can start with interesting picks instead of the usual 3. I should make a pic for starter rerolling, would anons like one?

No it was yesterday, though I'm only missing about 10 pokes for a full living dex at this stage (Kubfu would probably be the toughest to get)

At the time, I would have liked an even more rare pokemon or access to a secret location, like a city that didn't appear on the map. Just some kind of little secret, like how Mew was supposedly under the truck at the S. S. Anne.

Of course, times are different now and you can get access to 100% reliable information within a day of a game dropping. I doubt Gamefreak could keep anything secret with dataminers combing through their files.

Now you go for a living dex in every generation.
1, 3 and 4 can be done entirely in those generations of games but 2 and 5 need trades/transfers from other gens. Haven't started with 6 and 7 yet but I think 6 can probably get everything from XY and ORAS.

Patch gen 2 for the Celebi event, glitch a Mew and try to transfer a shiny Ditto. It's doable, but a nice challenge. Gen 3 is a step above with multiple runs, they can be transferred later if you want.

I did it for the first time in Black(2?) because I wanted to go to the natural reserve. With the GTS and some friends, it was manageable. After that I just made a Living Dex that carried me all the way to gen VII, the last one I played.
