They were correct though? Zacian and Zamazenta wouldn't do shit until two human beings used the sword and shield.
Sonia wrote revisionist human-apologist history that diminished the accomplishments of the former kings.

Also this would've been a way more interesting main plot than the "muh topical energy crisis" that we got.

There was originally a member based on things such as the Lady of the Lake or Hephaestus that made the sword/shield, but they culled it since "Zayellow" was redundant with Team Yell.

The whole game feels like creative projects you would do in grade school. One kid would come up with a cohesive and complete vision in his head, but not wanting to railroad his group members and ostracize himself (speaking from experience) he'd let other members do what they wanted and contribute their own ideas and input. By the time you're reading to push out the final result everyone's too excited about their own idea to listen to criticisms, and you're afraid of outright vetoing because if they complain and your position within the group becomes diminished you could lose even more control over the original vision you set out create.

The Pokemon games that worked well also have that kind of feeling. You could replace the individual Pokemon in Red version with different ones and not have much an issue. The towns were mostly self-contained sets that expressed a core theme and were pretty open beyond the few key items like Silph Scope and Pokeflute. Your rival and Team Rocket were the only characters that would show up all over the place.
