In truth, teams like Steven's and Raihan's are amazing. Karen also stands out because Vileplume fits with her overall aesthetic.
But Flint's team is dog shit. Volkner's Octillery gets a pass because it actually provides coverage against his one weakness and you can catch a Remoraid right by the shore in Sunnyshore. So it makes him look smart and strong, like he just walked down to the beach grabbed a random Water-type, casually evolved it and called it a day. His Ambipom is trash though and could have been readily replaced with Electivire.
If every trainer in the game was like this though it wouldn't stand out as much. Monotype teams are necessary, but they shouldn't be the end all be all, and they aren't good by default.
If you think teams like Bruno and Flint and Agatha weren't slapped together because of time constraints laziness and a lack of resources, you're deluding yourself. They are bad and they should be mocked accordingly.
