A real shame too. As a kid I thought it was dumb and didn't want to do it because getting competitive level Pokemon in Emerald and Platinum is a massive slog. Now in gen 8 thanks to all the QoL fixes I have two whole boxes of Pokemon ready for competitive or battle frontier level shit and they are just rotting.

I think gen 4 did the frontier better. At least the facilities seemed more fun and less gimmicky. It was more quality and less quantity.
The less palace there is, the better.
