Seems to be an Attraction for the strongest trainers around by using gimmicks meant to test aspects of a trainer headed up by Strong trainers. Another way to show your skill.

Doesn't seem to be any direct one, besides one E4 having her Butler be one, besides being in the same ballpark of skill.

Looking at Red and Blue in Alola and Leon in Galar I can totally see Frontier Brains being prior Champions. Both Palmer and Brandon give me prior Champion vibes.

I don't recall the exact dialogue from Emerald but I always got the vibe that all the trainers in the frontier were champions like you at your level with the brains being the absolute best.

Maybe not at the player's level but scott explicitly wants only the strongest of the strong to be able to visit. There's an NPC who mentions that he's by far the best trainer in his friend group, but the frontier kicks his ass.

I always saw it as a seperate Organisation with different rule sets.

Kinda like how in real life there is test cricket which is the main version of the sport and twenty20 cricket, a much shorter version with different rules.
