What are some other meaningless buzzwords /vp/ users love to spit out to shit on the newer games?
The funny thing about them is that they all could apply immensely to USUM and SWSH but somehow don't despite fitting the criteria that retards give to the older shit games like BW2, Platinum, XY, and HGSS.

Okay cool, here's an example of freedom in SwSh. The red line is tue expected path. Marked dots are areas that form optional paths to your destination. You can play the entire game without ever seeing these alternate paths, or IoA and CT's similar areas. The player has the freedom to choose which path to take.

No, you don't. Meanwhile Unova and Kalos, the most linear of the older games, still have the player making the explicit decision to take shortcuts via Cut, Strength, and Surf, and doing so without any map markers showing them where to go in a line.
People describe agency to you time and time again, you just plug your ears and say "LALALALAL DOESNT COUNT HERES A BUNCH OF MEANINGLESS SIDE AREAS"
Here's a riddle retard, how can a game have player agency but still be linear or without any optional areas? It's possible, but now suddenly you'll say it isn't because it doesn't fit your dumbfuck narrative of defending nu-Pokemon.

The only regions that don't hand HMs directly to the player when the game decides to open up areas are Kanto and Johto. In Kalos, one of the regions that person described, you cannot travel iver water until you play enough of the story that you are handed an HM for Surf. There is no functional difference between that and the Lapras pokeride or the water bike in SwSh.
If agency died, it was when HMs were given to the player in Gen 3.

Keep in mind most HMs that weren't cutscene-related were not required for more than a few items
So Agency died in Gen 3, worrying about it should've happened a long time ago.

They're the perfect example of agency, not just in spite of but BECAUSE they're also entirely linear.
There isn't a single instance of anything like this in Alola or Galar. Just because you don't play the games and see the blatant dissimilarities doesn't mean they don't exist.
Playing the games would help. LGPE in particular doesn't have HMs at all but is the perfect example of player agency since everything is up to the player, again, in spite of roadblocks.

In XY they literally guve you Surf and offer a Lapras for free right vefore you have to cross a river to progress. There is no choice or freedom there, you have to use it to go across the river or you can't finish the game. Similarly, I believe BW's required HM is Cut, which is handed to you and explained because the story needs you to have it to get into the dreamyard.
Unless you would like to change the provided definition, this is not agency, just doing exactly what the game requires before you're allowed to move on.

that's irrelevant to reality. if everyone started saying the sun is blue that doesn't change the objective facts. agency can absolutely be defined and proven and i can demonstrate this.
the kanto games allow you to challenge gyms 3-7 in almost any order you want, with the only caveat being that koga must come before blaine in order to surf to cinnabar. surge, erika and sabrina are completely skippable and not required to advance the plot until the late game when strength is required to progress. the johto games allow you to challenge chuck, jasmine or pryce in any order you want once morty is defeated and surf is obtained. hoenn allows you to skip brawly entirely. sinnoh doesn't let you skip gym leaders, however, you can easily reach pastoria city early which is very beneficial as the move relearner and safari zone are there. unova doesn't let you skip gym leaders at all and the region is linear. therefore in terms of sequence breaking the order of agency is as follows. kanto > johto > hoenn > sinnoh > unova. again, there is a discussion to be had on just how much agency you should offer your player. if you ask me, kanto handles it the best since the gym leaders clearly have an intended order, but it's simply not enforced until you reach giovanni. meanwhile johto, despite granting more agency than hoenn or sinnoh, feels worse because chuck, jasmine and pryce stagnate the level curve and bring it to a crawl because they're all around the same level. however, ultimately this is irrelevant to the discussion on whether or not the agency exists and whether or not it can be measured, which it does and it can. it's not a buzzword even if people use it like one.
