Can you please try to either convince me to buy or not to buy sword and shield?
I haven't played pokemon on a device since Gen 4 but have been playing some on showdown
It's really making me want to get back into the game but I'm not sure I want to invest in it
I'm considering using my Biden bucks to get a Switch and sword with the expansion pass
Just not sure if it would even be worth diving back in to

I was in your position like a month ago and I ended up playing BW instead. Gonna play BW2 when I finish this one.
Just play gen 5, they're good games and you probably have the DS already.
From what's I've seen I don't think the 3DS generations are worth playing at all, so when you've finished with gen 5 you can skip to swoosh but realistically you'll probably be bored of pokemon by then and will have saved 400 bucks not buying console you won't ever play again.

Wait for a sale. LGPE dropped to like 30 dollars which was a much better pricepoint than its original 60, so maybe they'll have a bundle of SwSh + DLC for like 70 or less this year or next.

Thing is he'd have to spend $90 for the whole game just to see for himself. If someone will let you have something behind a curtain for $60 and people who have seen behind the curtain tell you it's shit it's not worth looking behind the curtain.

Not worth it. It doesn't has all the pokémon for it's gen unlike the other entries, it has the most stupid and broken gimmick, the story is no existent till the game is almost over and what it has is retarded, Wild Area is a good idea but is extremely flawed either because of GF incompetence or lazyness or both, it still has almost no post-game and has the worst entry of the Battle Tower till now, play singles online is awful because the time limit was decreased to 20 mins, the DLC have some interesting stuff but the extra 30 bucks is not really worth it, also it just barely improves what it had on the main game and it doesn't fix all the shittyness of the base game, those are the ones on top of my head but I am pretty sure it still has many others issues. Save your money and buy better games for the switch or just any other pokémon game before the switch entries.

It is pretty mixed. Some parts look great, some look awful. Some quality of life features are really enjoyable, a lot of the game is frustrating. Some designs are good, some suck. I think for me though, the negatives slightly outweigh the positives, so no, it’s not worth it. If the game had more depth and free online (Nintendo’s fault, not the game’s, but it does limit the one thing that gives the game longevity), it would be worth it. As it stands it’s a shallow, cheaply made attempt at continuing a profitable franchise for money’s sake with sporadic touches of actual inspiration.

I have a good friend who’s also into Pokémon and we spend a lot of time discussing the current games/meta etc. He got so tired of waiting for me to get it he got it for me as a “present.” Totally unintentional plan but go for it 10/10

To be fair, a lot of local features can be done over LAN instead, which will be great for when the online shuts down someday. Now, you'll miss out on ranked online and random matchmaking I think, but that's still more than XY will have when online shuts down. LAN mode is one of the few good things SS did.
