Okay, I admit it, it's a pretty great design.

Overrated? I guess, but if you think about it, that word says nothing about Charizard, it's actually a descriptor towards the general public and the way it commonly perceives her. I'm sorry I was incapable of understanding this in the past which at times may have clouded my judgement.

zard is fine, the issue is how much gamefreak obsesses over it. why is zard in gen 6, 7, and 8? why did he get 2 mega evolutions and a gigantamax? it's all just marketing that ruins it for people.

It's an alright design, but when it comes to the other 2 in the same gen it just kinda seems lack luster to me. It sucks that it gets infinitely more love than the other 2 when it comes to variants. Poor Venusaur gets the short end of the stick too often despite arguably looking the coolest of the 3. Opinions are subjective though.

Not a massive fan of it. I think it's the proportions: stubby limbs and big belly. It works for Dragonite because it's simple and rounded but not as much here imo. Mega Y is lots better though.

Also this honestly gens 3 and 4 are slept on too much despite having arguably the best starter designs. Not nearly shilled enough. Torterra and Empoleon are god tier starter designs.

The stubby limbs draw attention to its major features: the head, wings and flaming tail.
The round belly is more pronounced in 3D and is just a consequence of brainless, paint-by-numbers modeling. You can see Charizard in its dynamic poses in the early artwork is usually flattening its stomach.

I like Charizard and think its cool but if it's in the newer gens, then the rest of the starters (ALL gens) should be able to be obtained as well. Charizard was 4th grade's me first EX card so it is a very special Pokemon to me.

They are both generic dragons. There's nothing special about that dragon that may have been stolen directly. Sugimori Is the one who made Dragon Quest inspired mons, Charizard was designed by Nishida.

Nothing is actually wrong with Charizard itself, and even the Kalos League victory can be attributed more to wanting Ash to be a perennial loser who tries again next time than shilling Charizard.

Getting two Mega forms as opposed to the rest of the Kanto starters is a bit much but at least acknowledges its popularity and it's one of two monsters that got similar treatment. It might be a little conspicuous, but I think the real issue starts in Gen 7 if anything, where Charizard is shilled at the cost of its prestige as a ride monster. Then in the next Generation its the Champion's ace even if that makes no sense.
