Zigzagoon's really carried Slakoth until I got Whismur. I probably have to evolve all of them before I can beat Roxanne.

When I first played, I only used a Dragonite and Meganium, but I had another like 8 Pokémon I considered apart of my "core" team even if most never got past lvl 40, Togetic, Butterfree, a Noctowl. Good chunk was Flying types and I know even more took up the Red Gyrados.

Just throw yourself a Bone and take a Starly Egg, or even just a route 1. Part of me wants to recommend Fearow but really it's got a boring move pool, not even noticeably different than your average bird.
