The problem stems from the fact people call them animals and expect them to actually be animals in every possible aspect which the name itself should tell you its not the case. This leads to complaints and misinformation(which, while not in the pokemon fanbase, is not considered a good thing by most people).
Its the misconception that they're supposed to be animals what results in objectmons being criticized for not being something that they're ultimately not supposed to be.
Also in breeding discussions where people complain about the fact not everything works like animal reproduction which they went out of their way to state its not the case at all.
They're consistently described as "misterous creatures" so we're not supposed(and we shouldn't expect to) to know everything about what they're and we can't fill the holes with animal knowledge because its not what they are.
Its like headcanon itself, in another fanbase, it might not be an issue but it is in this one.
