by far the best single player campaign in the franchise because it's the only one where they actually put effort into the story and worldbuilding instead of lazily copying KANTOOOOOO

also the side quests in USUM are peak soul.

Lots of people didn't like the story focus, but that's pretty much it. They pretend there are other reasons but almost always can't consistently say what those are.

Awful new Pokémon, worst region to traverse and explore, worst story and characters, worst setting, some of the worst features and ideas in the series with Festival Plaza, Poké Finder and alternate dimension crap, just a pile of steaming crap and the worst games in the series easily

No hate but I'm still ultra butthurt about the follow up games being so similar, mostly because I haven't been indoctrinated since childhood to accept the concept of "third versions" that are just the true final version compared to the early access launch versions, and the region felt too monotonous as a series of tropical islands even though there were patches of variety. I still prefer Kalos despite that gen feeling incomplete, but in general Alola was pretty great.

I’ve grown up from the days where third versions were accepted and still despised USUM to the core of my being since one, it was sold as two versions and it was marketed as a completely different experience like BW2 (which previous third versions never did that to this extent) and two, previous third version before USUM existed in a time where DLC wasn’t anywhere near as prevalent as now (that and the DS had no feasible way of doing DLC in a way that’s that’s easily accessible to the majority of the DS instal base. USUM however doesn’t have the same excuses previous third versions had so there’s far less justification for its existence especially when its not even a singular definitive edition (which would actually benefited more for replay value as it could of done what Isle of armour and crown tundra did where it let us choose the legendaries instead of locking them behind versions).

This is it for me. My biggest complaint is that the region just isn’t fun to explore, probably among the most boring to me. If the environments were more interesting I’d like Alola more. USUM were very disappointing as remakes as well, they didn’t even need to exist (or should have been the only versions in the first place). The gameplay in these games is alright though and they can be pretty fun

That's because you can't explore it. Period. There are optional areas that take up about half of the map but the game still refuses to let you have any agency in exploring it.
Gen 7 and 8 are proof that player agency in games is not equated to non-linearity. Unova and Kalos are entirely linear but still let the player take the helm. Galar has a fucking open world hub but it ends up being as functionally linear as Pallet Town in Kanto.

Whatmore could ve done to give the player "agency"? The areas exist, and one they're unlocked you can choose to stop following the story and visit them at any time. I know the little flag on the screen is scary, but it can't actually control you anon.

Honestly, while I understand the hate, gen 7 is still one in my top 3 (only 3 and 4 edge it out). The story was fun and I really liked kukui and lillie.
But I mean I'm not gonna lie, I totally understand the cutscene and hallway complaints.

Story/cutscenes, shitty hallway region, field trip simulstor with parential supervision ruins the immersion, some characters are really annoying. It definitely has a lot of good points too but I've only pmayed Sun and Ultra Sun once each since the pacing ruins the replay valuem

Yes. I remembered what all of them sound like as soon as I saw the names but they never just start playing in my head at random. And I listen to Pokémon music all the time, but I would never think of listening to any of these unless recommended by someone else, again except for Route 216.
