It's literally the reason for the weather wars of that gen, or completely reinvigorating past Pokemon like Dragonite & Blaziken. The Dream world itself was also advertised as such, being one of Gen 5's big new features at the time.
It wasn't as on the nose as Megas for example, but that's what I personally liked about it. You don't need new "formes" or whatever all the damn time to make past Pokemon more interesting, regional variants aside.
